The Shenhou Ancient Kiln Site, located in Shenhou Ancient Town, Yuzhou City, Henan Province, is an important historical site in Chinese ceramic history. This project is based on the site, aiming to create a landmark for showcasing.
The design consists of three main parts: ritual space, heritage preservation, and exhibition display. The ritual space retains the ancient sacrificial traditions performed before Jun porcelain firing. The heritage preservation adopts modern wooden structures to protect the original mantou kiln remains. The exhibition space draws inspiration from the street layout of Shenhou Ancient Town, providing a comprehensive display of Jun porcelain culture.
The design is inspired by ancient kiln forms, Jun porcelain techniques, and the spatial characteristics of Shenhou Ancient Town. The Jun Tower combines the shape of mantou kilns with the ceremonial essence of ancient pagodas, while the exhibition hall reflects the spatial features of traditional kiln workshops. The exhibition route mimics the winding streets of the old town. Additionally, a spiral ramp encircling the Jun Tower symbolizes the pottery-throwing process. The preservation integrates traditional mantou kilns with modern wooden structures, and the exhibition space adopts deep red and black tones, reflecting the historical atmosphere of Shenhou.
The project establishes a Jun porcelain cultural community, with the Jun Tower as its centerpiece, surrounded by heritage preservation, exhibition spaces, and landscape design. It fully presents the Jun porcelain-making process—from shaping and bisque firing to glazing, high-temperature firing, and final exhibition and trade—allowing visitors to experience both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary Jun porcelain culture.
