Shui Cultural Center

The Shui Culture Center is located in a Shui ethnic community, which has its own unique language and pictographic writing system. The architects aim to express the ancient rituals of the Shui people through architecture, integrating their culture into modern design.

The project consists of three linear buildings that integrate tourism, culture, and exhibition functions. It immerses visitors in the world of Shui culture while providing flexible spaces for various events and exhibitions.

The design draws inspiration from Shui symbols and pictographs. The site is surrounded by water on three sides, with a water plaza on the other side guiding visitors to the entrance. The building’s façade features perforated copper-steel panels, inspired by the ritualistic Shui bronze drum. This design creates a lightweight appearance, dramatic light and shadow effects, and symbolizes the Shui character for "rain." The interior structure uses concrete with imprinted pinewood textures, reflecting the traditional wooden architecture of the region. To accommodate local construction conditions, the architects developed an efficient concrete production system, simplifying construction while ensuring a modern aesthetic that remains deeply connected to Shui traditions.
