Library and Information Center - Media Vocational and Technical University

As the core building of the Media Vocational and Technical University campus, the project adopts a design methodology centered on spatial order, the orchestration of light, and material expression. Through a systematic architectural exploration, it reinterprets a learning environment with a strong spiritual orientation in a contemporary language.

The building responds to the site’s natural topography and is organized as two volumes aligned along a north–south axis, forming a spatial sequence that gradually transitions from openness to inwardness. The southern volume, facing the main campus entrance, houses the student library and serves as a public and ceremonial threshold, while the northern volume follows the terrain to enclose a series of courtyards accommodating teaching and research functions. Through the hierarchical progression of volumes and the embedded organization of courtyards, a clear functional structure and a stable intellectual core are established.

The material strategy emphasizes a synthesis of local specificity and abstract translation. The exterior envelope is finished with a synthetic coating mixed with red sand, transforming the geological characteristics of the surrounding iron-rich red weathered rock into a restrained and unified architectural surface, and evoking the image of a building “growing out of the land.” In contrast to the solid exterior, the interior employs a matrix grid system and a sequence of courtyards to reinterpret the traditional academy typology of “courtyards within courtyards,” introducing natural light and ventilation into a compact mass.

Internally, continuous arched openings organize layered visual connections and foster an open, shared atmosphere for learning. The staggered skylights are conceived as “devices of light,” where the controlled use of red, yellow, and blue, together with dramatic light and shadow effects, subtly alludes to the disciplines of media and film education, positioning the building as a contemporary example of the integration of knowledge, spirit, and place.
