Dushan School Complex is situated on a north–south oriented rectangular site. To the north, the site is bordered by rolling hills and scattered residential buildings; the west is adjacent to a highway, and the east and south are flanked by urban roads. The architects envisioned the school as a campus composed of courtyard units inspired by traditional academies, using the arrangement of courtyards to create bright, dynamic, and quiet learning spaces that honor local scholarly culture while meeting contemporary educational needs.
The campus consists of four functional courtyard groups:
Group A includes the teaching building and covered playground in parallel courtyards. East–west walls effectively block highway noise, while the teaching courtyard provides a lively, engaging learning environment.
Group B comprises administrative offices and a multi-courtyard library, offering compact, efficient office spaces alongside serene, elegant reading courtyards for study and work.
Group C combines a multi-courtyard cafeteria with Dormitory A. Vertical separation allows the lower level to serve as an active dining area while the upper level provides comfortable residential spaces.
Group D is Dormitory B, designed as an independent courtyard to ensure a quiet, comfortable living environment.
Given the limited experience of local construction teams and restricted material options, the exterior employs white paint and smooth cement plaster finishes, ensuring ease of construction and reliable quality. Overall, the design integrates academy-style courtyards, bright spaces, and functional zoning to cultivate a scholarly atmosphere and a campus environment that is both conducive to learning and pleasant to live in.
