This design project is an Alumni Memorial Grove, centered on the concept of the “Song of Youth,” composed of three key elements: the Foundation Stone, the White Forest of Youth, and the Soaring Wings.
The design methodology focuses on the transformation of “memory fragments” and topological generation. The team carefully analyzed the spatial layout of the old campus, known as the “Six Roads and One Lake,” extracting 11 key memory nodes. Combining these with the 5.11-degree angle between the old and new campus axes, a new grid system was generated atop the Foundation Stone. By dynamically pressing and laterally shifting the stone, layered steps and elegant curves were created, symbolizing the solid foundation built by successive generations of students. Additionally, the vertical lines of the campus library facade were referenced as a compositional element, allowing the design to harmoniously respond to the overall campus context.
Design highlights include:
Strong emotional continuity: The old campus gate is engraved on structural glass, and historical photographs are displayed on weathering steel panels, providing alumni with a space to recall their youth and campus memories.
High landscape identity: Abstract representations of six flight states of wings, combined with colored acrylic accents, form a cloud-like “White Forest” by the lake, creating a striking visual impact.
Precision in engineering and technology: Durable materials such as white marble and weathering steel are used, complemented by a sophisticated lighting system (embedded lights, light strips) and an efficient slotted drainage system, ensuring both beauty and functionality under all conditions.
Overall, this design acts as a three-dimensional campus chronicle, transforming abstract memories of the school into a tangible, experiential, and memorable landscape through contemporary architectural language.
